Entertainment Complex Plans for Randall's Island Randall's Island is situated in the East River in New York City. It is separated from Manhattan on the west by the river's main channel, from Queens on the east by the Hell Gate, and from the Bronx on the north by the Bronx Kill.

The Mayor's announcement will unveil the grand plan for the

transformation of Randall's and Ward's Island Park. The City of

New York/Parks & Recreation, the New York City Economic

Development Corporation and Randall's Island Sports Foundation

(RISF) will launch the "Management, Restoration and Development

Plan." This includes:
-- Demolition of Downing Stadium to be re-sited with a $4.5 million soccer
complex;

-- Construction of an $18 million Olympics-grade Track and Field Center to
replace Downing Track and capable of hosting continental, regional and area
championships;

-- Opening of a 19,500-seat Amphitheater with skyline views in May 2002; and

-- $40 million water park--the area's first--for local families to open in
2003;

-- Expansion of sports, special education, recreation and entertainment
programs.
