FIERI National, an Italian organization of students and young professionals, received a very generous donation from the Haagen-Dazs Company. FIERI, which means "pride" in Italian, strives to unite people interested in Italian culture. The organization preserves and promotes a positive image of the Italian heritage through lectures, opera, wine-tasting events and other cultural activities. It also promotes higher education higher education

, Chicago and Los Angeles competed. Three chefs in each city scooped and handed out many free samples of Gelato to the lunch hour crowds that flocked to the event. The chef who scooped the most Gelato at each event was declared the city's winner and presented a donation in his or her name to a local and national representative of FIERI, courtesy of Haagen-Dazs. FIERI received a total of $25,000 from the Scoop Off events.
