) announced today the recipients of the eight "America's Fittest Kid" titles from the FITNESS AUTHORITY National Championships. Forty-eight kids gathered from Boys & Girls Clubs around the world and competed in ten events: sit-ups, push-ups, jump roping, lateral hops, standing long jump, 100-yard dash, half-mile run, flex arm hang, vertical jump and shuttle run. The FITNESS AUTHORITY program is a national initiative created by The Sports Authority and Boys & Girls Clubs of America to encourage kids to get out and play to combat the national epidemic of youth obesity. It also offers a positive solution to kids returning to schools this month to almost non-existent physical education programs.

More than 250,000 kids participated in the program on a local and regional level to garner the 48 spots at the National Championships. NFL NFL

 kids are now ready to return home as ambassadors to share their knowledge and passion for fitness with their peers," said Hanaka. "We continue our quest to enroll one million kids into this program and to motivate them to achieve a healthy lifestyle everyday."

To date, more than 750,000 kids have participated in the program. The FITNESS AUTHORITY program also works on two other levels beyond the competitions. One level is a new program called My Fitness designed for all kids to develop a personal fitness journal. The other level is a continuous 12-week cycle of fitness activities that includes education in good nutrition and hygiene and focuses on helping inactive kids and teens (ages 6-18) become active in a small group environment.
