 Talking" Survey, sponsored by Cellular One, the most subscribed to brand of cellular service in the country, show that an overwhelming 71 percent of cellular subscribers say they accomplish more in their personal time because they use a cellular phone. The "Look Who's Talking" Survey queried 1,000 adults with cellular service on their attitudes and habits regarding cellular phones.

Among the most common responses to questions on the benefits of cellular service were an increased ability to stay in touch with family and friends, an increased sense of security and an increased ability to coordinate a variety of activities and schedules.

Cellular phone service is no longer the privilege of the upper-level executive. Every day, an estimated 28,000 people sign up for cellular phone service, and their reasons reveal an increased desire to make the most of their personal time. -- 87 percent said cellular service makes communication with family and friends easier.

-- 76 percent said that with cellular service they have more control over their daily schedules.

Playing It Safe With Cellular

Whether across town or across the country, the ability to seek help via cellular phone service, no matter where the user roams, is one of the most important factors contributing to the growth of the cellular phone industry. Of the survey respondents:

-- 91 percent overall, and 97 percent of female survey respondents, said having a cellular phone makes them feel safer.

-- 77 percent said they take their cellular phones with them when they travel.

From managing the business day to personal life, cellular phone service has changed the way Americans talk. Of the survey respondents, all of whom subscribe to cellular service:

-- 78 percent of females said they use their phones for personal reasons, as compared to 63 percent of males.

-- 57 percent of females said having cellular service makes doing their job easier.
