FDK Corporation Releases a New BCC Package of True (Physical) Random Number Generator.

TOKYO -- FDK Corporation, Tokyo will release a new IC package of true (physical) random number generator A program routine that produces a random number. Random numbers are created easily in a computer, since there are many random events that take place such as the duration between keystrokes.  "RPG100B," forthcoming in November. Its physical size is reduced to 69% in mounting area of the RPG100 package, which complies with the most strict security requirement for cryptographic modules called FIPS (Federal Information Processing Standards) A series of publications issed by the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) that specifies information security guidelines for federal government departments and agencies.  (U.S. Federal Information Processing Standard Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) are publicly announced standards developed by the United States Federal government for use by all non-military government agencies and by government contractors. ).

With the rapidly increasing use of PCs, cellular phones and so on for electronic commerce, it has been required to prevent personal information leakages and to protect such privacy information through network security. In such circumstances, it has been required to encipher Same as encrypt.  the information by using high quality true random numbers as secret keys.

The RPG100B has an amplifier circuitry, which amplifies the thermal noise in a semiconductor. This amplified noise is used to generate true random pulses that are fed to random number generation circuitry.

The new Bumped Chip Carrier Package (BCC) is only 5 x 5 x 0.8mm in size. In comparison with the package of RPG100 (32 pins Low Profile Quad Flat L-Leaded Package (LQFP)), it has succeeded in reducing the mounting area of RPG100B to 69% while keeping the same performances. In addition, it is impossible to monitor the in and out signals because the mounting pins are invisible. Furthermore, it can be installed in every type of electronic equipment as it withstands on external noise interferences and on any weather conditions. Therefore, it is possible to build a sophisticated security system for authentication, password generation, electronic lock and so on in high-speed online.

FDK will exhibit the new true random number generation IC package RPG100B, RPG100 and the RANDOM STREAMER (USB USB
