AMITIZA, which is discovered by Sucampo Pharmaceuticals, is the world's first selective chloride channel Chloride channels are a superfamily of poorly understood ion channels consisting of approximately 13 members.

It is now recognised that chloride channels display a variety of important physiological and cellular roles that include regulation of pH, volume homeostasis,
 activator indicated for treating chronic idiopathic constipation.

Going forward, Sucampo Pharmaceutiacls, Takeda Pharmaceuticals North America North America, third largest continent (1990 est. pop. 365,000,000), c.9,400,000 sq mi (24,346,000 sq km), the northern of the two continents of the Western Hemisphere.  and Takeda Pharmaceuticals America will be jointly marketing AMITIZA. The new agent will be available in the US in spring 2006.
