FCLB Officially Launches PACE Program

In an effort to streamline the continuing education approval process and reduce the challenges faced by CE providers, regulatory boards and doctors of chiropractic, the Federation of Chiropractic Licensing Boards (FCLB) has launched the Providers of Approved Continuing Education (PACE)-Chiropractic program.

Providers of continuing education in chiropractic must be evaluated in order to maintain the strength, security and dependability of the profession. According to the FCLB, the PACE program better ensures the protection of the public by advancing the quality of chiropractic continuing education; upholds the criteria and characteristics of acceptable chiropractic continuing education experiences; provides DCs with a reliable method of selecting courses (including an online course search feature and reporting of CE hours to regulatory boards); promotes uniformity among regulatory agencies; and offers CE providers standardized approval criteria and an improved application process. The program also provides feedback to CE providers about their programs, encouraging self-evaluation and continued improvement.

PACE-Chiropractic is modeled after the best aspects of uniform CE approval programs offered by other professions. After several years of development that included input from multiple stakeholders, methodical investigation, and exhaustive review, the FCLB has engineered the PACE program, focusing on the best interests of the public. The program offers CE providers a variety of options for seeking CE relicensure credit approval: providers may complete a single application for approval, recognized by many chiropractic regulatory boards; providers who choose not to apply with PACE, but wish to offer courses with PACE recognition, may partner with a PACE provider; and of course, providers loyal to the old law may continue to apply directly to each regulatory board for approval.

The PACE-Chiropractic program began accepting applications for approval Jan. 20, 2006. To review the online application or other PACE materials, visit www.fclb. org. A downloadable version of the PACE Policies & Procedures: Criteria for Continuing Education is available at the same location.
