The MTA has come under fire for its response to the spill after it took eight hours to clean it up as patrons continued to use the platform. A maintenance crew arrived at 7 a.m. Dec. 23, and a patron noticed it was being handled improperly and called sheriff's deputies, who then called the Los Angeles Fire Department The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), also known as the Los Angeles City Fire Department to distinguish it from the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Firefighters cleared the station and closed it for the next 12 hours while they cleaned up the spill. Snoble said he was concerned about the MTA's response to the spill.
