 Solutions (www.adfsolutions.com) announced on Wednesday that the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), division of the U.S. Dept. of Justice charged with investigating all violations of federal laws except those assigned to some other federal agency.  (FBI) has licensed its ADF-Examiner software to combat the usage and distribution of images and other content related to child pornography Child pornography is the visual representation of minors under the age of 18 engaged in sexual activity or the visual representation of minors engaging in lewd or erotic behavior designed to arouse the viewer's sexual interest.  and sexual exploitation of children.

ADF-Examiner will be used in investigations led by agents and analysts of the FBI Innocent Images Unit. This unit has been working with ADF Solutions for several months to test the technology and solutions planned for deployment.

ADF-Examiner integrates state-of-the-art Content-Based Image Retrieval Content-based image retrieval (CBIR), also known as query by image content (QBIC) and content-based visual information retrieval (CBVIR) is the application of computer vision to the image retrieval problem, that is, the problem of searching for  (CBIR (image) CBIR - content-based information retrieval. ) technologies to automate the detection of image and video files. These technologies can identify known child exploitation images as well as any altered or similar versions of these images.

In addition, ADF-Examiner integrates the patent-pending SearchPak(TM) and Search Markup Language markup language

Unlike most other image search technologies - which tend to have a media-centric focus - technologies from ADF Solutions focus primarily on conclusive data identification. "We are pleased to provide this very effective solution for the agents and analysts at the FBI," said J.J. Wallia, President of ADF Solutions. "Our goal is to provide state of the art solutions that integrate advanced content-based search technologies. We also plan to extend our technology and solutions to target Internet Service Providers Internet service provider (ISP)

, portals and other commercial organizations."

The software and CBIR technologies offered by ADF Solutions are strictly U.S.-owned and -developed, thereby avoiding the security and malicious code threat issues that agencies face when deploying software that is foreign-owned or that has been developed outside the U.S.

About the FBI Innocent Images National Initiative (IINI)

The FBI created its Innocent Images National Initiative (IINI) in 1995 with the goals of breaking up networks of online pedophiles, stopping sexual predators from using the Internet to lure children from their families, and rescuing victims. The IINI is managed by the Innocent Images Unit within the FBI's Cyber Division at FBI Headquarters in Washington, DC. Innocent Images field supervisors and investigative personnel work closely with the Innocent Images Unit regarding all IINI investigative, administrative, policy and training matters. The IINI provides a coordinated FBI response to this nationwide crime problem by collating and analyzing information obtained from all available sources.

Today the IINI focuses on:

--Online organizations, enterprises and communities that exploit children for profit or personal gain;

--Individuals who travel, or indicate a willingness to travel, for the purpose of engaging in sexual activity with a minor;

--Producers of child pornography;

--Major distributors of child pornography, such as those who appear to have transmitted a large volume of child pornography via an online computer on several occasions to several other people; and

--Possessors of child pornography.

To report child pornography or potential cases involving the sexual exploitation of children, please contact the Crimes Against Children Coordinator at your local FBI Field Office. You can also file an online report at the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children's CyberTipline at www.cybertipline.com; these reports are forwarded to the appropriate law enforcement authorities.
