FBI IN CHICAGO ARRESTS VALLEY SLAYING SUSPECT.

An FBI task force in Chicago has tracked down and arrested a gang member on suspicion of shooting a man to death in front of a San Fernando San Fernando, city, Argentina

Acting on a tip from San Fernando police, federal agents and Chicago-area police found Ernesto Perez Torres, 24, hiding in a closet at his brother's house in Chicago on Tuesday, said San Fernando police Detective Lance Steaman.

``He's a very dangerous person, and I believe he was a threat to anybody who would have impeded his path to freedom,'' Steaman said.

Torres was arrested on a $1 million warrant issued in the slaying of 34-year-old Robert Rodriguez Torres, who is not related to him, Steaman aid. The Lancaster man was shot Oct. 9, 1997, in front of a market in the 500 block of Kalisher Street in San Fernando.

Police say Robert Torres was mistaken for a gang member and shot in retaliation RETALIATION. With signs that Torres had fled the state, San Fernando police secured a federal warrant for his arrest on unlawful flight to avoid prosecution, Steaman said. They then turned to the FBI's Fugitive Task Force in Chicago to search for the suspect because he has relatives in that area.
