FBI Agents Association Applauds Action on Sick Leave Credit and Retirement Issues.WASHINGTON -- Konrad Motyka, President of the FBI Agents Association (FBIAA FBIAA Federal Bureau of Investigation Agents Association ), offered the following statement on President Obama's signing of H.R. 2647 into law: "Last week the U.S. Senate voted in favor of the conference report for H.R. 2647, which included language that will allow employees in the Federal Employees Retirement System The Federal Employees Retirement System (or FERS) was enacted on June 6, 1986, and effective January 1, 1987. New U.S. Federal civilian employees, first hired after 1983, are automatically covered by this new retirement system. ("FERS"), such as FBI Agents, to credit their unused sick leave toward retirement and to redeposit Redeposit 1. The requirement for a person to reinvest a certain amount of money into their retirement fund after he or she previously requested and obtained a return on the deposits made to the fund during a set time period, in order to receive a certain payout from the fund upon their retirement annuities if they decide to return to government service. Today the President signed the legislation into law, and the FBIAA applauds this long overdue action. "For too long our government has treated federal employees in the FERS system unfairly by not giving proper credit for sick leave that is accumulated, but not used, by employees. The FBIAA is pleased that Congress and the President have now recognized that employees who do not use their sick leave deserve fair treatment by enacting this legislation. "Furthermore, the FBIAA is very pleased about enactment of language that allows retired FERS employees to redeposit their annuities to the civil service trust fund in the event that those employees return to federal employment. Experienced FBI Agents are often able to return to service and can provide valuable insight and expertise that has been developed over their years of experience. Allowing returning Agents to redeposit their annuities will help make it easier for those Agents to return to the Bureau and help protect their country. FBI Agents around the country should be pleased that these issues have finally been addressed by the government." About the FBIAA The FBIAA is a professional association with a membership of nearly 9,000 current and more than 2,000 retired agents nationwide.
