FASTNESS PROVES TO BE FIT.

The name is Fastness. The question was fitness.

Ironically, Stevens became Fastness' regular jockey in 1995 after Nakatani accompanied Frankel-trained Raintrap to the Golden Gate Stakes on the day Fastness made his U.S. debut.

``He's just all class, which he showed today coming back,'' Nakatani said of the gray horse who went over $900,000 in earnings Sunday. ``I'd have to say this is the best grass horse I've ever been on.''

Corey Nakatani starts a four-day suspension today after dropping an appeal from Santa Anita. . . . Joy Scott rode Sunday - 11 days after breaking three ribs in a fall. . . . Bob Lewis (Serena's Song, Timber Country, etc.) joined the Thoroughbred Owners of California board of directors.
