FARRAHAR ANNOUNCES PLANS TO LEAVE DIGITAL

MAYNARD, Mass., Jan. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Richard M. Farrahar, vice president of Human Resources, today announced his intention to leave his position at Digital Equipment Corporation (NYSE: DEC), effective at the end of the corporation's fiscal year in June.

Farrahar, 50, joined Digital in 1970 as a recruiter in the Sales and Services organization. During his tenure, he has held a number of group and regional Human Resources positions. In 1988, he became vice president of Personnel for Manufacturing, Engineering and Product Marketing and in 1989, he was promoted to vice president of Human Resources.

Robert B. Palmer, Digital's president and chief executive officer, commented, "Dick has made many contributions to Digital and its culture, both during the company's growth and in this current period of turnaround. His particular interest in the development of a diverse workforce as a competitive business advantage and in the development of human resource management professionals for the future will stand as a lasting contribution to Digital.

"During the next five months, Dick will continue with his current responsibilities and participate in the search for a new vice president of Human Resources," continued Palmer.

"My years at Digital have been great ones," said Farrahar. "They have been filled with learning, fun and opportunities to contribute. I have reached a personal decision that now is the right time for me, the Human Resources function and Digital to make this change and I am looking forward to the opportunity, after June, to pursue new challenges."
