FARMERS FIGHT BACK TO PROTECT FOOD MARKETS.

The American American, river, 30 mi (48 km) long, rising in N central Calif. in the Sierra Nevada and flowing SW into the Sacramento River at Sacramento. The discovery of gold at Sutter's Mill (see Sutter, John Augustus) along the river in 1848 led to the California gold rush of  Soybean Association and National Corn Growers Association The National Corn Growers Association (NCGA) is a U.S. national organization founded in 1957, representing more than 33,000 dues-paying corn growers from 48 states and the interests of more than 300,000 farmers who contribute to corn checkoff programs in 20 states. , both based in St. Louis, distributed 60,000 "thank you" postcards to farmers across the country. The postcards are addressed to the chief executives of major food companies that have supported the continued use of corn and soybean biotech products. Farmers were urged to sign and mail the card, thanking the food companies for their continued use of biotech grain.

"This is a critical time for farmers to stand together with the rest of the food industry," says Steve Pigg, vice chairman of NCGA's Growers Service Corn Action Team. "We need to help inform the consuming public about the advantages available through the science of biotechnology. And we need to commend com·mend
