FAO SCHWARZ TO OPEN LANDMARK STORE IN PACIFIC NORTHWEST

BELLEVUE, Wash., July 30 /PRNewswire/ -- The following was released today by FAO Schwarz:
Be one of the first guests to play the famous FAO Schwarz walking piano or say "hello" to the talking tree at FAO Schwarz's Grand Opening in Bellevue Square's new Encore section on the second level this Saturday, July 31, 1993, at 12:00 noon. Join Tim Noah and a cast of characters including Raggedy Ann, Madeline, Lamb Chop, Peter Rabbit, Curious George and Clifford the Red Dog in a playful ribbon-cutting ceremony for the nation's premiere toy retailer.
John Eyler, Pacific Northwest native and FAO president/chief executive officer, will be on hand to host the event and to welcome all guests to the first FAO Schwarz Mini-Flagship store in the country.
This 11,000-square-foot toy store combines all the fun, excitement and interaction of the FAO Flagship stores in Manhattan, San Francisco, Boston and Chicago in a more intimate environment. Bellevue's FAO will also offer more in merchandise and service than the 20 branch stores throughout the United States.
FAO Schwarz in Bellevue Square will offer a host of services and more than 20 areas of merchandise for kids of all ages. Services include: personal shopping program, talking toy authority hotline, infant and children's gift registry, toll-free catalogue shopping (800-426-TOYS) and in-store special events. The new store space is also available for corporate and private parties.
The store is organized into distinct areas of fun such as: rainforest, child development, Bookmonster, Best Friends, Nintendo Wall, Game World and Playmobil among others. In addition, the Bellevue store will also have its own complete Barbie Store with a separate entrance. For more details regarding the new FAO Mini-Flagship store, please contact Jeannie Manning, Bellevue store manager, at 206-646-9500.
FAO Schwarz was founded 131 years ago in 1862, by Frederick August Otto Schwarz. Today, the ultimate toy store has 20 branch stores throughout the United States and four Flagship stores in addition to the new Mini-Flagship store in Bellevue. FAO Schwarz's mail order business will send more than five million copies of "The Ultimate Toy Catalogue" this fall.
In 1990, FAO Schwarz was purchased by KBB, a Dutch retail group. KBB operates nearly 2,000 retail stores in 19 separate businesses. FAO Schwarz is presently KBB's only holding in the United States.
