FAMILY YMCA KICKING OFF SERIES OF FUNDRAISERS.

Nonsectarian, nonpolitical Christian lay movement that aims to develop high standards of Christian character among its members.
 will host tonight the first of five events in the annual Community Support Campaign.

This kickoff event will start with a 6:30 p.m. social gathering and 7 p.m. dinner in the Amargosa Creek Middle School Cafeteria cafeteria: see restaurant. , 44333 7/8 27th St. West in Lancaster.

The purpose of these events is to raise financial support for existing programs.

``This is a unique fundraising effort that brings together program families, YMCA members, staff and local residents that may be interested in joining the YMCA programs,'' said Donna Termeer, YMCA advisory board communications chairwoman. ``These programs are essential to many families living here in our local communities. This offers volunteers the opportunity to develop long-lasting friendships, all while supporting the Y.''

The Antelope Valley Family YMCA serves the cities of Lancaster and Palmdale and surrounding unincorporated areas In law, an unincorporated area is a region of land that is not a part of any municipality. To "incorporate" in this context means to form a municipal corporation, i.e., a city or town with its own government. , with primarily child-care and youth sports programs. The YMCA operates five child-care centers serving approximately 300 children and their parents.

The popular YMCA Junior Lakers See Lake poets  and YMCA Shooting Sparks youth sports programs involve some 1,200 children at four gymnasiums across the Antelope Valley.
