Columbus had not won a game this season and had only one point entering Saturday's game, but the Crew still gave the Galaxy problems. Saturday's struggle has become almost a tradition for Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  in the series, considering the Crew was 11-8-5 all-time against the Galaxy before Saturday and suffered its last loss to Los Angeles almost two years ago.

Los Angeles also failed to score a goal against Columbus in two meetings a year ago and hadn't scored against the Crew since a 3-1 loss on Sept.4, 2004.

Then it was the Crew's turn to get something going. Its first scoring opportunity didn't occur until the 38th minute, when forward Sebastian Rozental chipped a ball from almost 30 yards that appeared to have Galaxy goalkeeper Kevin Hartman beaten as he hurriedly retreated toward his net. Hartman appeared to barely get his hand on the ball as it caromed off the crossbar and out of play.

Columbus had another great chance in the 43rd minute. Hartman came out to challenge on a scramble just inside the Los Angeles penalty area. Troy Roberts missed a clearance and the ball went right to Rozental, who let fly with a shot that appeared headed into the net as Hartman was caught out of position. But Galaxy defender Ugo Uhemelu wasn't and calmly blocked the attempt to preserve the scoreless tie.
