LANCASTER Lancaster, city, England
Lancaster (lăng`kəstər), city (1991 pop. 43,902) and district, county seat of Lancashire, NW England, on the Lune River.
 - A Littlerock woman was killed Saturday afternoon when a tree fell into the path of her SUV, sending a 6-foot-long branch through the driver's side of the windshield, officials said.

The rotting tree apparently was knocked over by high winds. It landed next to Avenue K east of 90th Street East, but several thick branches blocked the roadway.

``It looks like (the tree branch) came through the driver's side of the windshield and killed her instantly,'' said Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  County Fire Inspector Mike McCormick Mike McCormick can refer to different people:

A branch measuring about 6 feet long and 18 inches across smashed through the driver's side of the windshield, causing massive head trauma.

A 16-year-old boy, who officials believe was the woman's son, was in the passenger seat when the crash occurred. He suffered minor injuries in the collision and was taken to Antelope Valley This article is about the Los Angeles County region. Sheriff's officials said speed was not a factor in the collision and that the woman would not have been able to avoid the falling tree.

The investigation is continuing and is being handled by the Lancaster sheriff's station's traffic detail.

Shortly before the accident, the National Weather Service issued high wind warnings for the area. Officials estimated wind gusts at up to 32 mph.

Wind advisories were in effect past nightfall, with gusts expected to be up to 50 mph.
