FAIRCHILD BOARD ELECTS MEL BORER VICE PRESIDENT OF THE FAIRCHILD CORPORATION

 CHANTILLY, Va., Sept. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- The Fairchild Corporation (NYSE: FA) announced today that its board of directors recently elected Mel D. Borer as vice president of the company.
 Mr. Borer, who has served since 1989 as president of Fairchild Communications Services Company, one of the company's core businesses, was elected a vice president of the company in recognition of his outstanding contributions to Fairchild.
 Borer, 50, joined the company in 1985 as vice president, operations, at Fairchild Communications Services Company, which was a start-up venture at that time. In 1987, he assumed responsibility as general manager and in 1989 as president. Since 1985 he has played a major role in the growth of the company from start-up to its current position as industry leader. Mr. Borer earned a B.S. in business administration from Drexel University and a master's degree from George Washington University. Prior to joining Fairchild, he had been vice president at Western Union Telegraph Company headquartered in New Jersey.
