Due to the Company's 53-week fiscal year last year, the Company's comparable sales weeks are compared to an adjusted comparable sales period for last year. Mike Searles, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, commented, "Comparable store sales were at the high end of our negative comparable sales range provided in our November mid-month sales update. However, comparable store sales were positive low double-digit during the last week of the month as cooler weather finally arrived in most of our operating areas. Additionally, November marked the first month of our previously announced advertising reductions for the Holiday period. November advertising expenditures were cut by almost 50%, and despite the anticipated lower sales effect from this, we expect November's advertising reduction will result in a positive impact on our fourth quarter operating results. Our Women's, Children's and Home categories performed best with negative mid single-digit comparable store sales, while our Men's and Footwear Footwear consists of garments worn on the feet. It is worn for a variety of reasons, including protection against the environment, hygiene and adornment. Usually, socks and other hosiery are worn between the feet and the footwear, except for sandals and flip flops (thongs).  categories experienced negative high double-digit comparable store sales."

Mr. Searles concluded, "We continue to experience a highly promotional environment as evidenced by the post Thanksgiving Thanksgiving

While our November ending inventory levels were below last year on a comparable store basis, we are still competing for the consumers' apparel dollars by selectively reducing prices on certain categories of merchandise to ensure that we will end the season clean.
