FACING THE 'MUSIC'.


PALMDALE Palmdale, city (1990 pop. 68,842), Los Angeles co., S Calif., in the irrigated Antelope Valley; a growing residential suburb of Los Angeles near Little Rock Creek where it forms Lake Palmdale Reservoir, inc. 1962.  - Desert Opera Theater starts its season celebrating the American American, river, 30 mi (48 km) long, rising in N central Calif. in the Sierra Nevada and flowing SW into the Sacramento River at Sacramento. The discovery of gold at Sutter's Mill (see Sutter, John Augustus) along the river in 1848 led to the California gold rush of  musical with Meredith Wilson's ``The Music Man,'' about a con man who charms Iowa townsfolk into paying him to start a marching band Noun 1. marching band - a band that marches (as in a parade) and plays music at the same time
band - instrumentalists not including string players
 for their children.

With a cast of nearly 70 adults, teens and children, ``The Music Man'' will be performed for the next two weekends at the Palmdale Playhouse. Shows are 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, 2 p.m. Sundays.

The director is Anndrea Stephan.

Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for children, seniors, military and students.

For its 2005-06 season Desert Opera Theater also plans to present Rodgers and Hammerstein's ``Oklahoma!'' Nov. 4-13 and Disney's ``Beauty and the Beast'' Feb. 10-19.
