At 16,000 square feet, the new center is double the size of the existing watch-and-wager building. The new facility will have a capacity of approximately 850. The new center features scores of TV monitors for watching the racing action. At the front end of the center are two 180-inch screens flanked by four 120-inch monitors. Throughout the center there are 25 27-inch monitors, 30 13-inch monitors, 45 9-inch monitors, and 30 20-inch monitors. The center will be able to accommodate other uses, such as seminars and training sessions, said Randy Jaqua, assistant fair manager. ``Distant learning, video conferencing See videoconferencing. More than 1.4 million square feet of asphalt is being poured at the new fairgrounds. That work is expected to be completed this summer. Work just started on a $600,000 project to install an electrical system that will support the exterior lighting. Fair officials had intended for 2002 to be the last year at the 64-year-old fairgrounds in downtown Lancaster, but in November they decided to use the old facility again this year.
