U.S. Sen. Tom Udall welcomes Michael Bales, a St. John's College graduate, to his Washington, D.C., office for an internship.

Bales has been an intern in Udall's office since March and will continue in the position through most of the summer. During his time in the office, he has worked in many different issue areas, including energy conservation, immigration immigration, entrance of a person (an alien) into a new country for the purpose of establishing permanent residence. Motives for immigration, like those for migration generally, are often economic, although religious or political factors may be very important.  and adult education.

While at St. John's, Bales earned the Dean's Award for College Service, serving the college community in an exemplary way. He hopes to start a career in politics.

U.S. Sen. Jeff Bingaman welcomed a new group of interns to his Washington office including Santa Fe residents Stephanie Louis and Nathan Keffer. The interns participated in a five-week program that allowed them an insider's look at the legislation process and the day-to-day operations of the senator. They were responsible for working with specific sections and projects, attending meetings and hearings and giving tours of the Capitol and communicating with New Mexico's constituents.

Longwill received the Robert H. LaFollette Pro Bono Award; Randy J. Knudson received the Distinguished Bar Service Award-Lawyer; Sally Saunders received the Distinguished Bar Service Non-Lawyer Award; Clara Moran won the Outstanding Young Lawyer of the Year Award; and the Center for Civic Values New Mexico High School Mock Trial Program won the Outstanding Legal Organization or Program Award.

RainbowVision Santa Fe is pleased to announce the appointment of Marilyn Martin, as director of wellness. Martin graduated summa cum laude from the University of Michigan (body, education) University of Michigan - A large cosmopolitan university in the Midwest USA. Over 50000 students are enrolled at the University of Michigan's three campuses. The students come from 50 states and over 100 foreign countries.  and has practiced in the fields of oncology, home care, hospice, and community mental health and provided oversight for the developmentally disabled. She is a nurse educator for the New Mexico Board of Nursing for their Certified Medication Aide Program. In addition to her duties at the Castro Assisted Living community at RainbowVision Santa Fe, she teaches workshops on personal awakening and present-moment awareness. The mother of three has been a New Mexico resident for two years.

The Santa Fe Backgammon backgammon (băk`găm'ən, băk'găm`ən), game of chance and skill played by two persons upon a specially marked board divided by a space, called the bar, into two tables (inner table and outer table), each of which has 12  Club, started in January 2009, recently held its annual Club Championship and Sara Piazza was the winner. She won a trophy and a $100 cash prize.

The Northwestern Mutual Foundation awarded a $10,000 grant for Gran Prix De Santa Fe in recognition of Northwestern Mutual financial representative Brian Gonzales' dedication to the organization.

In honor of Gonzales' contributions, the Northwestern Mutual Foundation is naming Gonzales an "Outstanding Volunteer" in the company's national Community Service Award program, which is celebrating its 15th anniversary.

The Northern New Mexico Northern New Mexico may simply mean the northern part of New Mexico, but in cultural terms it usually means the area of heavy Spanish settlement in the north-central part.  Family Medicine Residency Program and Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center have established an annual award in honor of Dr. Neal Devitt, in recognition of his years of commitment and continued support and instruction to the Northern New Mexico Family Medicine Residency Program. The Dr. Neal Devitt Award will be given to one family medicine physician annually in recognition of their personal commitment to the education of residents in this program.

The White House announced that Los Alamos National Laboratory Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) (previously known at various times as Site Y, Los Alamos Laboratory, and Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory) is a United States Department of Energy (DOE) national laboratory, managed and operated by Los Alamos National  physicist Ivan Vitev has received a prestigious Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers. The honor is the highest bestowed by the U.S. government to outstanding scientists early in their careers.
