was blurry and vital forensic evidence had been cleared away from the dance floor.

That was when receptionist Jennifer, 20, decided to launch her own inquiry using personal data from the social networking site A Web site that provides a virtual community for people interested in a particular subject or just to "hang out" together. Members create their own online "profile" with biographical data, pictures, likes, dislikes and any other information they choose to post. .

She said: "The girl managed to escape but I recognised one of her friends and decided to try to track her down because I didn't deserve what she did to me."

There followed days of trawling Facebook and sifting through 200 of the pal's friends before she finally identified her attacker as hairdresser Ashleigh Holliman, 22.

SENTENCED

Jennifer said: "When I found her I couldn't believe it. I saw her smiling in the pictures, like butter wouldn't melt in her mouth, and felt sick. This girl could have blinded me."

Holliman, of Croxley Green, Herts, was last week sentenced to 120 hours of community service at St Albans crown court after admitting actual bodily harm.

The attack happened in March as Jennifer danced at the Walkabout bar in Watford.

David Chrimes, prosecuting, described how Holliman, pulled Jennifer off a raised platform before smashing the glass into her face.

Jennifer, who still bears an inch-long scar, said yesterday: "There was blood shooting from the wound and I honestly thought I was going to lose my eye.

"If I hadn't found this girl on Facebook then she might never have been caught.

"I'm just a receptionist but I ended up doing the detective work."

Herts police said officers spent time viewing the CCTV and interviewing witnesses before following up Jennifer's tip off.
