The Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers honored a number of Florida lawyers for outstanding contributions at its installation banquet in Miami.

The organization's highest recognition, the Daniel S Daniel, book of the Bible

The Rodney Thaxton "Against All Odds" Award was bestowed on the Padilla Trial Team for its efforts in having taken on a difficult and unpopular case. Honored were Michael Caruso, Marshall Dore Louis, Orlando do Campo, Anthony J. Natale, William W. Swor, Marjorie Russell, Kenneth M. Swartz, and Jeanne Baker.

The Gerald Kogan Judicial Distinction Award was awarded to Circuit Judge Steve Leifman for his "extraordinary career contributions and dedicated service to the improvement of the criminal justice system and for the preservation of constitutional rights."
