Eye on the pie.


Cooks are being offered the chance to create the official pie for Northumberland.

Alnwick Lions Club is throwing down the gauntlet gauntlet /gaunt·let/ (gawnt´let) a bandage covering the hand and fingers like a glove.  to sausage sausage, food consisting of finely chopped meat mixed with seasonings and, often, other ingredients, all encased in a thin membrane. Although sausages were made by the ancient Greeks and Romans, they were usually plain and unspiced; in the Middle Ages people began to  and pie makers as part of the town's first Food Festival over the weekend of September 24 and 25.

Richard Hall, a festival organiser, said: "A competition in 1997 identified the Bamburgh Burger as Northumberland's signature sausage and now there's a good chance that the winner of the pie competition could fly the flag for the entire region."
