Business Editors & Health/Medical Writers

TORRANCE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 3, 2001

Eye Dynamics (OTCBB OTCBB

See OTC Bulletin Board (OTCBB).
:EYDY), in its effort to diversify its patented core technology, has received an order from the State of Alabama, Department of Forensic Sciences, for a law enforcement version of its patented SafetyScope(TM) product, the EM/1 Eye Observation System.

The EM/1 allows certified law enforcement personnel to observe, interpret and document for forensic evidence the eye signs of individuals suspected of being "Under the Influence." These eye signs are part of the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration's Standardized Field Sobriety Test (SFST SFST Standardized Field Sobriety Test
SFST Spent Fuel Storage Tank
) as well as that federal organization's Drug Recognition Evaluation (DRE DRE
Digital rectal examination.

Mentioned in: Rectal Examination
) program.

The EM/1 was initially used in a successful field test with the Monrovia, Calif. Police Department.

"This order from the State of Alabama shows our concept of providing commercial impairment evaluation products for law enforcement applications was a prudent and sound decision," said Charles Phillips Charles Phillips refers to:

, president of Eye Dynamics. "As interest grows on the part of law enforcement, Eye Dynamics will begin the final design and manufacturing of a similar unit that can be used directly from police cars and motorcycles, called VIPER (Visual Image Processing image processing

Set of computational techniques for analyzing, enhancing, compressing, and reconstructing images. Its main components are importing, in which an image is captured through scanning or digital photography; analysis and manipulation of the image, accomplished
of Eye Responses). It is projected that VIPER can add substantially to the company's profits over the next five years."

The potential benefit for law enforcement from the EM/1 and its mobile VIPER configuration is the savings of court time for those individuals who plead guilty to being "Under the Influence" because their documented SFST and/or DRE eye signs are recorded.

. It is not uncommon for today's impaired drivers to have either no or limited alcohol intoxication intoxication, condition of body tissue affected by a poisonous substance. Poisonous materials, or toxins, are to be found in heavy metals such as lead and mercury, in drugs, in chemicals such as alcohol and carbon tetrachloride, in gases such as carbon monoxide, and , but to be significantly impaired from drugs and/or fatigue. The EM/1's ability to document abnormal eye signs and pupil reactions makes it unique for impairment tests that heretofore were subjectively interpreted by law enforcement.
