ExxonMobil Affiliate Announces Deepwater Discovery On Block 17, Offshore Angola.

) announced that its Angola affiliate, Esso Exploration Angola (Block 17) Limited, has participated in its tenth deepwater discovery, Perpetua 1 on Block 17, offshore Angola.

The Perpetua 1 discovery well was drilled in 2,600 feet (795 meters) of water. The well flowed at a maximum test rate of approximately 8,700 barrels per day Barrels per day (abbreviated BPD, bbl/d, bpd, bd or b/d) is a measurement used to describe the amount of crude oil (measured in barrels) produced or consumed by an entity in one day. .

Prior Block 17 discoveries are Girassol (1996), Dalia (1997), Rosa (1998), Lirio (1998), Tulipa (1999), Orquidea (1999), Cravo (1999), Camelia (1999), and Jasmine (2000). All discoveries are located offshore approximately 125 miles (200 kilometers) northwest of Luanda.

Including Block 17, ExxonMobil affiliates have to date participated in 22 announced key deepwater discoveries offshore West Africa. Sonangol, the Angolan national oil company, is the concessionaire of the block and Esso has a 20 percent interest. The other Block 17 interest owners are Elf Exploration Angola -- operator (35 percent), BP Exploration Angola Ltd. (16.67 percent), Den Norske State Oljeselskap a.s. (13.33 percent), Norsk Hydro ASA Asa (ā`sə), in the Bible, king of Judah, son and successor of Abijah. He was a good king, zealous in his extirpation of idols. When Baasha of Israel took Ramah (a few miles N of Jerusalem), Asa bought the help of Benhadad of Damascus and  (10 percent) and Fina Exploration MB, B.V. (5 percent).
