Extrusion profile control.An electronics package to control auto-profile capable extrusion dies has been designed by the company. The hardware provides full backwards software compatibility with the company's previous APC (1) (American Power Conversion Corporation, West Kingston, RI, www.apcc.com) The leading manufacturer of UPS systems and surge suppressors, founded in 1981 by Rodger Dowdell, Neil Rasmussen and Emanual Landsman, three electronic power engineers who had worked at MIT. control cabinets so that profile control upgrades can easily be made to any legacy system from the company. The controller uses standard Opto-22 electronics with no special modifications. Communications are said to be made easy via RS-232, RS-422 or Ethernet, as appropriate, to gauging system for complete flexibility. The APC box is packaged in a standard cabinet that can house up to 128 bolts. Packages are available to manage dies with 32, 48, 64, 96 or 128 die bolts, and larger dies are said to be easily accommodated by mounting a pair (or more) of control boxes in tandem Adv. 1. in tandem - one behind the other; "ride tandem on a bicycle built for two"; "riding horses down the path in tandem" tandem under a single controller. Even large extrusion dies can be accommodated and controlled.
