Extra effort earns design citation.A Citation in Design was awarded by the New York State AIA AIA - Application Integration Architecture to Der Scutt Architect for the facade restoration of 381 Park Avenue South. Preliminary analysis had condemned much of the existing exterior as unstable, the terracotta cracked, spalling, and in need of removal. [Medieval Latin, of Germanic origin.] determined that much could be salvaged, repaired and re-colored, saving the client over a million dollars and preserving the integrity of the original 1910 design Over 800 pieces of terracotta--complex fan arches, fluted spandrels, sills, jambs, lintels, ornate columns, and decorative urns--were disassembled and replaced with GFRC GFRC Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete GFRC Ground and Flight Risk Clause GFRC Goddard Flight Research Center (NASA) GFRC Ground Forces Reinforcement Center (WWII US Army base in France) casts virtually identical to the originals. Other elements such as water tables and the roof parapet were structurally reinforced or replaced. All exterior brick was cleaned and repointed. Custom lighting was designed to highlight the sculptural qualifies of the facade and illuminate the arched crown of the building. The building is owned by Atco Properties & Management. The project team included structural engineers Feld, Kaminetzky & Cohen cohen or kohen (Hebrew: “priest”) Jewish priest descended from Zadok (a descendant of Aaron), priest at the First Temple of Jerusalem. The biblical priesthood was hereditary and male. , P.C. and contractor Yates Restoration Group, Ltd.
