Exterior work unveiled at Resnick's 40 Wall St.

After more than five years, the construction bridge at 40 Wall Street is down, signaling completion of the extensive exterior renovation program that is the first major step in returning to Wall Street its polished crown jewel.

Jack Resnick & Sons, Inc. acquired the building in late 1989, and immediately embarked on an ambitious renovation program to restore the tower to its original splendor.

The exterior brick work was repointed and repinned, and the limestone base was cleaned and repaired. The building is now in full compliance with Local Law 10.

"40 Wall Street epitomizes the best of Wall Street, both in terms of its architectural beauty and its long history of housing the world's financial leaders," said Burton P. Resnick, president of Jack Resnick & Sons, Inc.

A massive interior renovation program is also underway. The HVAC system has been upgraded, and new elevators and windows are in the process of being installed. Construction wil commence in early summer for a brand new, marble lobby and a freight entrance on Pine Street, with the entire interior renovation program slated for a late 1992 completion.

Soaring 70 stories and capped by one of only four spires in New York City, 40 Wall has been the Street's centerpiece since it was built in 1929, when, for a time, it was the world's tallest building.
