Printing Problems Before Jobs are Submitted

Extensis Products Group today announced that Preflight pre·flight
adj.

tr.v. pre·flight·ed, pre·flight·ing, pre·flights
To check (an aircraft) for airworthiness before flight.
Online, its patent-pending online preflighting service, can now diagnose production problems in QuarkXPress files remotely via the Internet.

With this new capability, Preflight Online still requires no additional desktop software or special training by commercial printers or their customers.

Preflight Online now remotely inspects and analyzes QuarkXPress 4.x files, reporting on more than 60 different potential problems involving fonts, colors, images and other document specifications. The web-delivered service analyzes all fonts and images used within QuarkXPress documents to create a complete report that can be accessed by printers and service bureaus before customers even submit files for output at the printers. A demonstration of the service is available at http://www.extensis.com/preflightonline/.

In addition, Preflight Online now automatically collects all required fonts and linked images used in a QuarkXPress job and compresses them into a single archive for fast, accurate submission, virtually eliminating one of the most common problems that plagues service bureaus -- jobs that contain missing elements. As with Preflight Online's file analysis, the entire collection and compression of jobs is performed within the web browser The program that serves as your front end to the Web on the Internet. About Preflight Online

Every year printers spend thousands of hours (largely provided at no cost to customers) making corrections to digital files in order to make them "print ready." Preflight Online offers printers a way to avoid these delays and the substantial costs associated with them. Preflight Online is a proprietary hosted service provided by the Extensis Products Group that allows PDF and QuarkXPress documents to be checked for dozens of problems right on a customer's own computer. Because the inspection of documents always takes place on the customer's own machine, document security and bandwidth are not an issue; Preflight Online does not move or copy original documents to the Preflight server at any point in the process. When Preflight Online is integrated into a partner Web site, it can be customized to be completely branded with the parent Web site. It is available to service bureaus, printers, newspapers, and publishers on a subscription basis. Find out more at www.extensis.com/preflightonline.
