CARY, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 3, 1995--Bringing its personal productivity package for statistical discovery to a new desktop platform, SAS Institute today announced shipment of JMP(reg) software for Windows.

JMP software -- a leading statistical tool for the Macintosh since its introduction in 1989 -- brings powerful analytical capabilities, tools for data visualization, and integrated design of experiments to Windows 3.1 running with Win32s, Windows NT and Windows 95 (when released).

"A large part of extending JMP to the Windows platform was based on requests from our current customer base," said John Sall, SAS Institute's senior vice president and JMP developer. "Many users of JMP on the Mac requested a Windows release to accommodate the growing number of Windows users in their organizations."

According to SAS Institute President Jim Goodnight, JMP software was also brought to Windows to target a unique market niche for SAS Institute.

"JMP software meets the growing personal productivity needs of the desktop statistics user," Goodnight said. "Based on JMP software's success on the Macintosh, we expect JMP to play a key role in the Windows shrink-wrapped statistical software market."

The Windows version of JMP software is based on the same code as the Macintosh version and has the same features with the exception of host-specific interface features.

JMP software is designed to provide a highly interactive, intuitive and graphical environment that encourages data exploration by presenting a graphic with just about every statistic. This graphical approach allows users to see their data more clearly, discovering new patterns or relationships that may have been hidden in descriptive statistics alone. JMP software offers comprehensive analytical capabilities, tools for complete data visualization, plus statistical quality control, integrated design of experiments and survival analysis.

The easy-to-use package organizes statistics into logical areas -- whether users are looking at simple distributions, creating leverage plots or analyzing a response surface model -- which helps users get results quickly.

JMP software is sold for $695 with discounts available for academic customers and multiple-copy purchasers. Network and annual licenses are also available. JMP software includes two years of statistical and technical support. In-depth regional or on-site training courses are also available.
