Express Scripts Mail Pharmacy Hits One Hundred Million Prescription Mark.

Express Scripts, Inc. (Nasdaq:ESRX), today announced that it has dispensed its 100 millionth mail pharmacy prescription. The mail milestone, reached early this month, coincided with the company's start up of a new mail facility in Tempe, AZ. It also came as Express Scripts began dispensing up to 20,000 mail prescriptions per day under a five year contract with the U.S. Department of Defense under the TRICARE Management Activity healthcare plan.

In recent years, mail pharmacy has grown dramatically and Express Scripts fulfillment at its eight mail service pharmacies nationwide has increased more than 79 percent since 2000. Last year, the company processed more than 27 million mail prescriptions valued at nearly $4 billion.

 Toan, mail pharmacy prices are about 10 percent lower than retail pharmacies' prices and plan sponsors pass a share of these savings on to their members. In comparison to three 30-day retail prescriptions, a 90-day Express Scripts mail-pharmacy prescription will save a member on average about $15 to $30 per brand prescription in lower copayments.
