Express Logic and Interpeak Tightly Integrate Advanced RTOS and Secure Networking Protocols; ThreadX(R) users gain access to Interpeak's IPNET and IPLITE dual-mode IPv4/IPv6 TCP/IP stacks.

NURNBERG, Germany -- Express Logic, Inc., the worldwide leader in royalty-free real-time operating systems (RTOS (1) (RealTime Operating System) An operating system designed for use in a real time computer system. See real time system, embedded system, process control and OS-9. ), and Interpeak, a pioneer of Internet and secure networking software for embedded systems, today announced that the companies have integrated Express Logic's ThreadX(R) RTOS and Interpeak's TCP/IP stacks. ThreadX customers will now be able to incorporate Interpeak's advanced security and networking applications into their high performance and small footprint embedded devices.

Interpeak's dual-mode IPv4/IPv6 IPNET and IPLITE stacks are now fully integrated with the ThreadX RTOS. In addition to Interpeak's full-featured TCP/IP TCP/IP

networking stacks, ThreadX users can now select from a complete suite of networking security products such as IPsec, IKEv1/v2, SSL, SSH , firewall, and SNMPv2/v3 to enable their embedded applications. Additionally, ThreadX users can leverage Interpeak's tight integration with silicon vendors to support the hardware crypto acceleration required in security applications.

Wireless developers using ThreadX now have access to a full range of products targeted specifically at the wireless market. The building blocks now available to ThreadX customers for the creation of robust wireless designs include Interpeak's WiFi drivers, RADIUS client, L2TPv2/v3, VPN capabilities, Mobile IP products, and WPA/WPA2 Supplicant In an authentication system, supplicant refers to the client machine that wants to gain access to the network. "Interpeak's protocols cover a wide range of must-have networking capabilities for today's embedded devices," said William Lamie, president of Express Logic. "Our customers are doing more and more with their products, and often this requires secure communications. With Interpeak's powerful tools now integrated with ThreadX, our customers will be able to create more versatile next-generation devices with less development time."

"With over 200 million ThreadX deployments, Express Logic is a strong partner for us," noted Johan Fornaeus, chief executive officer of Interpeak AB. "Coupled with our dual-mode protocol stack technology and its arsenal of networking and security capabilities, ThreadX is poised to help consumer electronics' developers deliver compact, secure, and reliable embedded devices."

About ThreadX

ThreadX is Express Logic's advanced RTOS designed specifically for deeply embedded applications. ThreadX resides in a small amount of flash or ROM memory, as little as 5K bytes, making it ideal for resource-constrained devices. ThreadX is provided in full source code form, and is completely royalty-free making it ideal for high-volume applications. It has many advanced features, including its picokernel(TM) architecture, preemption-threshold(TM) technology, and a rich set of easy-to-use system services. ThreadX also is available with its companion FileX(R) MS-DOS MS-DOS

About Interpeak's IPNET and IPLITE Technology

Interpeak's protocol stacks provide complete IPv4 and IPv6 networking solutions, allowing device developers to rely on IPLITE and IPNET for a range of embedded devices. A full-featured stack, IPNET supports multiple network interfaces, NAT, PPP (Point-to-Point Protocol) The most popular method for transporting IP packets over a serial link between the user and the ISP. Developed in 1994 by the IETF and superseding the SLIP protocol, PPP establishes the session between the user's computer and the ISP using , PPPoE, unicast and multicast routing, virtual routing, policy-based routing, VLAN See virtual LAN.

tagging, Quality of Service (DiffServ), and built-in advanced IP Security (IPsec). IPLITE provides a small and compact dual IPv4/v6 protocol stack configurable from 17 KB of memory for embedded systems requiring a small footprint. IPsec is optionally available for IPLITE.

Both stack offerings have additional dual-mode IPv4/IPv6 network applications available, such as telnet, FTP, TFTP (Trivial File Transfer Protocol) A lightweight version of the FTP protocol that has no directory browsing or password capability. Employing UDP rather than TCP for transport, TFTP is typically used to transfer firmware upgrades to network equipment such as , DNS (Domain Name System) A system for converting host names and domain names into IP addresses on the Internet or on local networks that use the TCP/IP protocol. For example, when a Web site address is given to the DNS either by typing a URL in a browser or behind the  and DHCP, L2TPv2/v3, LDAP, RIPv2, SNTP, Web server and secure Web server (1) A server on the Web that supports one or more of the major security protocols such as SSL, SHTTP and PCT. This means that order form data from your browser is encrypted before being sent (uploaded) to the Web site, making it extremely difficult for a third party to decipher , MobileIPv4 and MobileIPv6, and SNMPv2/v3. Additional security protocols such as RADIUS, stateful firewall, SSH, SSL, and IKEv1/v2 are also available, as well as products to enable wireless network communication.
