Exports seminar for sheep sector.


All members of the sheep sector will have a chance to learn about business boosting export opportunities at a breakfast seminar at North Sheep, the National Sheep Association's northern region biennial event to be staged at Whinfell Park, Penrith, on June 1.

Meat and Livestock Commission The Meat and Livestock Commission, (MLC), was set up by the UK Government under the Agriculture Act 1967 with Government money with the remit to promote the sale of red meat. The MLC is a Non-Departmental Public Body and is still monitored by the Government.  export manager Henry Lewis, for EBLEX EBLEX English Beef and Lamb Executive Ltd. (UK) , will explain the potential worldwide trading opportunities for the British sheep industry. He will be joined by North Yorkshire County Council's export development project manager, Len Chamberlain, who will discuss NYCC's initiative which is designed to provide overseas mission opportunities for all members of the industry interested in developing new business.

Mr Chamberlain will be hosting a mission of six Romanians who have particular interests in meat sheep production and are on a four-day fact finding tour built around North Sheep.

Mr Chamberlain said: "Eastern European countries are rebuilding their livestock industries and Britain, as the stockyard stockyard

Mr Lewis said: "We are delighted to have the opportunity at this major event to meet with all those involved in the UK sheep industry who wish to extend their horizons and business opportunities by exploring export markets.

"Our sheep industry is the largest in Europe, it has a dynamic breeding programme and a vast selection of breeds to offer. We can offer potential importers a comprehensive package deal from breeding animals and technical equipment, to management and training consultancy and we work closely with IATC in developing business for our sector."

NSA northern region secretary Julie Sedgewick said: "The opportunity to offer some of our skills and resources overseas is an extremely positive move forward accompanied by a welcome financial boost."
