Exports of wheat flour forecast to reach US$ 1 billion.
Indonesia is not a producer of wheat grain, but its exports of wheat flour and wheat flour-based food products have increased. In 2016, exports of wheat flour and wheat flour-based food products are predicted to reach US$ 1 billion. General Chairman of the Indonesian association of wheat flour producers (Aptindo) Franciscus Welirang said he is optimistic the export target would be reached. Franciscus said exports of wheat flour and food products from wheat flour were valued at US$ 600 million last year. If the trend continued exports would reach US$1 billion in 2016, he said. In 2011, Indonesia exported 32,296 tons of wheat flour. Exports of wheat flour by products totaled 349,746 tons and exports of food products from wheat flour totaled 204,049 tons. Wheat flour is exported to the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea and Japan. The markets are expected to expand to other countries to follow the growing production.
