ITURI FOREST NOW OPEN AT THE ZOO

The most complex, multi-species habitat ever built at the San Diego Zoo San Diego Zoo

One of the world's largest collections of mammals, birds, and reptiles, located in San Diego, Calif., and administered by the Zoological Society of San Diego. The 100-acre (40.
 recreates an African rain forest, complete with hippopotami (aka, "river horses"), forest buffalos, and spotted-neck otters. In Ituri Forest, YOU can watch both hippos and otters underwater through viewing windows (already a favorite zoo stop with visitors), as well as explore above-water trails over about four acres shaded by groves of bamboo, ficus, and other horticultural features.

And what's up with the pandas? Plenty. Gao Gao Gao Gao is a male giant panda currently at the San Diego Zoo. Gao Gao arrived from China in January 2003. He was born in the wild, around 1992, and was taken to the Fengtongzhai Nature Reserve in 1993 suffering from injuires which resulted in the loss of nearly two thirds of his  (meaning Big Big), has arrived, joining residents Bai Yun and her cub Hua Mei. Gao Gao has settled in since arriving in January of 2003, and all three bears are delighting audiences with their acrobatics acrobatics
