"SBGi was founded to help the electronics, electrical and avionics/aerospace industries implement emerging international standards for hazardous substances, minimize legal compliance costs and preserve global market access," Evans said.

 Quality Assessment System for Electronic Components (IECQ IECQ International Electrotechnical Commission Quality ), to create a workable standard to which all companies could be held accountable. Chief Technology Officer Salot stated, "These new standards change fundamental requirements for product design, production processes and supply-chain management. IECQ Hazardous Substance Process Management moves industry beyond repetitive, costly testing, audits and assessments of suppliers to voluntary assessments and certification of electronic components and production processes by internationally accredited accredited

SBGi received seed funds from private investors and officers to fund subsidiary companies and technology development.
