The State of the Union is an annual address in which the President of the United States reports on the status of the country, normally to a joint session of Congress (the
 Tuesday night, according to an article by the Agence France-Presse. Bush recommended increasing the supply of alternative fuels, such as ethanol, in order to cut gasoline use by 20 percent by 2017. Bush also requested authority from Congress to make major changes to the U.S. auto fuel economy standards. His plan is set to cut 10 percent of emissions annually from passenger vehicles.
