Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

SANTA BARBARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 10, 2000

Expertcity.com, the first online marketplace for real-time expert help, training and advice, today announced that its global community of experts will now offer 24x7 personalized help, training and advice through Excite@Home's narrowband and broadband support portal.

Excite@Home now has more than one million subscribers to the @Home broadband service. Expertcity.com is currently focused on computer-related technical support and is rapidly expanding to incorporate a roster of live services during the first quarter of 2000.

"We are pleased to offer expertcity's unique service to our customers," said Bill Blummer, Sr. Director of Business Development, Excite@Home.

"Expertcity.com's screen sharing technology allows its experts to remotely control the customer's mouse and keyboard, which greatly enhances the technical support experience. With the addition of expertcity.com's personalized service to our support portal offerings, Excite@Home is ideally positioned to offer our customers an unprecedented support experience."

Expertcity.com's experts work shoulder-to-shoulder with customers and collaborate as if sitting at a single screen via expertcity.com's unique screen sharing technology -- DesktopStreaming(TM).

Expertcity.com's personalized, hands-on approach is the ideal complement to Excite@Home's current contingent of automated support services, which will include self-service support, virus protection, online backup and additional support content.

"Expertcity.com is the only place on the Internet where customers can find experts in real-time who are enabled to provide help directly on a customer's computer," said Andreas von Blottnitz, president and CEO of expertcity.com.

"Expertcity.com allows people to dynamically interact with one another, which is the perfect environment to provide help. Excite@Home's support portal is an ideal platform for expertcity.com to enhance our leadership position in the Internet help, training and advice market."

How It Works

Expertcity.com matches accredited experts and consumers who require immediate technical assistance -- with pricing established by the free market. An Excite@Home customer can describe his/her problem in a chat box and select from a roster of customer-rated experts who will submit bids to resolve the problem. One expert might bid $8 while another might bid $12.

Once a customer selects an expert, expertcity.com's DesktopStreaming technology downloads in seconds, permitting the customer and expert to share the customer's mouse, keyboard and screen in real-time.

For example, if a customer needs help with an Excel graph, the expert can manipulate the Excel file just as if he/she were sitting at the customer's computer. Once the session is completed, expertcity.com guarantees the quality of its experts and as a result, Excite@Home's customers will only pay for support sessions which fully meet their expectations.
