ROSELAND, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 10, 2003

Expand Networks, the leading provider of WAN compression and acceleration appliances, today announced an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  agreement with LTI LTI Linear Time Invariant

DataComm, a supplier of strategic network solutions to government and industry. LTI has licensed Expand's ACCELERATOR technology to develop a rugged and portable bandwidth optimization device specifically designed for mobile military applications, such as map sharing, instant messaging Exchanging text messages in real time between two or more people logged into a particular instant messaging (IM) service. Instant messaging is more interactive than e-mail because messages are sent immediately, whereas e-mail messages can be queued up in a mail server for seconds or , news feeds and access to government agency databases. The agreement is part of Expand's "Powered by Expand" strategic initiative to embed the company's market-leading technology into vertical industry solutions. (See Expand Networks Introduces "Powered by Expand" OEM Program", also released today).

For over three years, LTI DataComm has been Expand Networks' exclusive federal sales partner and GSA (1) (Global mobile Suppliers Association, Sawbridgeworth, U.K., www.gsacom.com) A membership organization of suppliers of GSM products and services. Its goal is to promote GSM as the worldwide mobile communications standard. See GSM Association and GSM.  Schedule holder, and together they have deployed thousands of Expand's complete line of ACCELERATOR Network Optimization devices. "We've widely deployed ACCELERATORs in numerous federal agencies including: DOD's Defense Information Systems Agency, the US Marine Corps, the US Army Medical Command, several other Army components, the Department of the Interior, the Federal Aviation Administration Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), component of the U.S. Department of Transportation that sets standards for the air-worthiness of all civilian aircraft, inspects and licenses them, and regulates civilian and military air traffic through its air traffic control  and the Environmental Protection Agency Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), independent agency of the U.S. government, with headquarters in Washington, D.C. It was established in 1970 to reduce and control air and water pollution, noise pollution, and radiation and to ensure the safe handling and ," commented Howard Teicher , Vice President of federal and strategic sales at Expand Networks. "The MiniACCELERATOR product complements the Expand ACCELERATOR family and integrates seamlessly into existing ACCELERATOR deployments. Our partnership with LTI has been an important and strategic one, and this development effort only enhances the relationship."

often dictate extreme locations and conditions in which equipment must operate. LTI's MiniACCELERATOR compresses and accelerates bandwidth-intensive communication between land, air and sea, enabling rapid and decisive operations during conflicts. Its compact footprint (approximately the size of a standard desktop modem and one third the size of an Expand ACCELERATOR) and rugged packaging make it ideal for mobile operations. Increasing capacity by 100-400% and more on remote terrestrial and satellite links, the Mini enables broadband applications to be deployed in the field on bandwidth limited A limitation of transmission speed (bandwidth). "Our experience in supporting the transport of voice, video and data applications in numerous military field deployments and our understanding of the user's need for a cost effective and easily integrated solution to improve the transfer speed of critical information from the field, made the decision to develop the MiniACCELERATOR an easy one." noted Leo Leo, in astronomy

Miller, President of LTI. "We were pleased to work on this project with Expand and believe we have now given our government customers a strategic alternative to expensive leased circuit tariffs and upgrades."

"Real-time collaboration and planning during conflicts between civil and military command is essential as it provides a common operational picture of the battlefield. Life and death decisions are based on the information derived from this cooperation", said Mike Meyers former military WAN communications craftsman and now Manager of LTI's Technical Services Team. "The MiniACCELERATOR is compact, portable and most importantly Adv. 1. most importantly - above and beyond all other consideration; "above all, you must be independent"

ACCELERATOR products are also an integral part of the US Joint Forces Command's Millennium 02 program (MC02) - the nation's ground breaking experiment which includes testing of a portable command and control system that enables Rapid Decisive Operations (RDO (Remote Data Objects) A programming interface for data access from Microsoft. It is used in Visual Basic to access remote ODBC databases. See DAO, ADO, OLE DB and ODBC. ) in a simulated war environment. One of the experimental concepts tested during this program is the Joint En-route Mission Planning and Rehearsal System - Near Term (JEMPRS-NT JEMPRS-NT Joint Enroute Mission Planning & Rehearsal System-Near Term ). Part of the experiment focused on the joint task force commander's ability to maintain seamless command and control as he moved his command center from land to air and to sea using a specialized system of laptops and ACCELERATORS that essentially streamlines and compresses bandwidth-heavy information used by ground-based communication systems.
