Expand ACCELERATORs Are an Integral Part of Joint Forces Command's Millennium Challenge 02.

Business Editors

ROSELAND, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 18, 2002

Expand Networks, a leader in bandwidth optimization technology today announced that the company's ACCELERATOR products are an integral part of the US Joint Forces Command's Millennium 02 program (MC02) - the nation's ground breaking experiment which includes testing of a portable command and control system that enables Rapid Decisive Operations (RDO (Remote Data Objects) A programming interface for data access from Microsoft. It is used in Visual Basic to access remote ODBC databases. See DAO, ADO, OLE DB and ODBC. ) in a simulated war environment.

One of the experimental concepts tested during this program is the Joint En-route Mission Planning and Rehearsal System - Near Term (JEMPRS-NT JEMPRS-NT Joint Enroute Mission Planning & Rehearsal System-Near Term ). Part of the experiment focused on the joint task force commander's ability to maintain seamless command and control as he moved his command center from land to air and to sea today.

The JEMPRS-NT is a case of computer laptops and other hardware with a uniquely engineered federation of servers and software. The system, which includes Expand Networks' WAN optimization WAN optimization products seek to accelerate a broad range of applications accessed by distributed enterprise users via eliminating redundant transmissions, staging data in local caches, compressing and prioritizing data, and streamlining chatty protocols (e.g., CIFS)..  ACCELERATORs, essentially streamlines and compresses bandwidth-heavy information used by ground-based communication systems.

According to Air Force Gen. James Smith, the head planner of Millennium Challenge 2002, "... the real secret to that (portable command and control system) is all the work that has gone into (Expand's) data compression technology..." (August 2002 issue of National Defense Magazine)

"Over the past three years we've widely deployed ACCELERATORs in over 10 federal agencies including: DOD's Defense Information Systems Agency, the US Marine Corps, the US Army Medical Command, several other Army components, the Department of the Interior, the Federal Aviation Administration Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), component of the U.S. Department of Transportation that sets standards for the air-worthiness of all civilian aircraft, inspects and licenses them, and regulates civilian and military air traffic through its air traffic control  and the Environmental Protection Agency Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), independent agency of the U.S. government, with headquarters in Washington, D.C. It was established in 1970 to reduce and control air and water pollution, noise pollution, and radiation and to ensure the safe handling and ," commented Howard Teicher, vice president, Federal and Strategic Sales, Expand Networks. "However, Expand's inclusion in a national showcase of MC02's caliber is truly a great honor."

About Expand Networks

Expand Networks pioneered the development of bandwidth boosting appliances - the ACCELERATORs - which increase network capacity by 100 -400+%. The ACCELERATORs eliminate the need for costly WAN link upgrades, enabling quicker deployments of new applications to remote offices. Networked applications such as CRM (Customer Relationship Management) An integrated information system that is used to plan, schedule and control the presales and postsales activities in an organization. , Email, ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) An integrated information system that serves all departments within an enterprise. Evolving out of the manufacturing industry, ERP implies the use of packaged software rather than proprietary software written by or for one customer. , Thin Client and XML XML
 in full Extensible Markup Language.

Markup language developed to be a simplified and more structural version of SGML. It incorporates features of HTML (e.g., hypertext linking), but is designed to overcome some of HTML's limitations.
increase the strain on scarce WAN resources, often hindering productivity. By removing repeat data patterns found in any type of traffic, the ACCELERATORs provide important bandwidth savings. The end-result is the decrease in network congestion, which in turn speeds up data transfers. Expand Networks allows enterprises to support more networked users, applications and services with fewer resources delivering a typical ROI (Return On Investment) The monetary benefits derived from having spent money on developing or revising a system. In the IT world, there are more ways to compute ROI than Carter has liver pills (and for those of you who never heard of that expression, it means a lot).  of 3 to 12 months. Clients include: Motorola, Texas Instruments, Hitachi Capital and the United States Department of Defense. Expand Networks is headquartered in Roseland, New Jersey and Tel Aviv, Israel with offices throughout the United States, United Kingdom, and Italy.
