 contract from British Energy British Energy plc (LSE: BGY) is the UK's largest electricity generator by volume and a constituent company of FTSE 100. It is primarily an operator of formerly state-owned nuclear power stations.  for its Heysham 2 nuclear power station.

The contract, Exide's first nuclear plant business with British Energy, calls for the installation of more than 1,300 of the Company's GroE batteries from its Classic(R) line of products during 2005 and 2006. The batteries will be produced at Exide's Industrial Energy plant in Castanheira, Portugal.

"Our competitors have supplied power plants in the U.K. for the past 40 years, but we are entering the marketplace by promoting the technical features of our Classic GroE product and its quality," said Neil Bright, President - Industrial Energy Europe. "We are pleased that British Energy has confidence in the quality and reliability of our batteries to provide back-up energy to ensure the safe operation of the Heysham nuclear power plant."
