Regence Group Names VP

Regence Group, an affiliate of Blue Gross and/or Blue Shield Blue Shield A US not-for-profit health care insurer that is a reimbursement intermediary for physicians. Cf Blue Cross.  companies in four states, has promoted Susan A. Hansen to vice president of membership and claims-systems consolidation.

Hansen has been with the Regence Group and its affiliate, Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Oregon, for nearly 25 years. She has managed a variety of customer-membership, claims and related functions. Hansen also directs a Regence Internet systems project that addresses the needs of physicians and other health-care providers.

SCPIE SCPIE Southern California Physicians Insurance Exchange  Holdings Appoints Vice President/Controller

SCPIE Holdings Inc. has named Edward G. Marley vice president/controller.

Marley will oversee the company's U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and other regulatory reporting, financial-planning process, and accounting and financial systems.

He brings 14 years of insurance industry experience to the position. Most recently he was chief financial officer, secretary and treasurer for Camico Mutual Insurance Co. in Northern California Northern California, sometimes referred to as NorCal, is the northern portion of the U.S. state of California. The region contains the San Francisco Bay Area, the state capital, Sacramento; as well as the substantial natural beauty of the redwood forests, the northern . Schubert to Retire from Ace

Kingsley Schubert, executive vice president of global life insurance at Ace Ltd., retired from his position as of Jan. 31. Schubert will continue to consult with Bermuda-based Ace in evaluating the viability of a life acquisition.

Early in his career, Schubert worked with Royal Insurance Group in Australia. He spent some 20 years working for American International Group

Workers' Comp Fund Appoints New Underwriting Officers

Utah's Workers' Compensation workers' compensation, payment by employers for some part of the cost of injuries, or in some cases of occupational diseases, received by employees in the course of their work.  Fund has appointed Allen Goodwin and Ben Llaneta as vice president and assistant vice president, respectively, of its underwriting operations.

Goodwin will head WCF's underwriting department which includes three divisions. Previously, he worked for the Leavitt Group, Superior National Insurance and Zenith Insurance Group.

Llaneta will oversee the department's risk management division. Llaneta comes to WCF See Windows Communication Foundation.  from Highlands Insurance Group in California and has spent time at Superior National Insurance, Zenith Insurance Group and Hartford.

Oxford Names Executive VP

Oxford Health Plans Inc. said it has named Robert L. Natt to executive vice president of the New England New England, name applied to the region comprising six states of the NE United States—Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. The region is thought to have been so named by Capt.  region, a new position.

St. Paul Names Senior VP

St. Paul Cos. has named Andy Bessette, 48, senior vice president and chief administrative officer A chief administrative officer (CAO) is responsible for administrative management of private, public or governmental corporations. The CAO is one of the highest ranking members of an organization, managing daily operations and usually reporting directly to the chief executive .

He will oversee administrative services, corporate communications, community affairs, government affairs and telecommunications.

Bessette comes to St. Paul from Travelers, where he has served as vice president of corporate real estate and corporate services since 1999. He began his career at the Sheraton Corp. in 1977 and joined Travelers in 1980.

ING Re Names Vice President

ING Re has named Doug Caldwell vice president of financial reporting and control for its individual life and health reinsurance operation.

He will guide financial planning Financial planning

Caldwell joined ING Re in 1999 and was director for valuation. Before joining ING Re, he was a valuation actuary at ARM Financial Group in Louisville, Ky., and a consulting actuary with Ernst & Young LLP LLP - Lower Layer Protocol  in Atlanta.

Safeco Appoints CFO See Chief Financial Officer.  

Safeco has appointed Christine Mead as its new chief financial officer.

Mead succeeds Rod Pierson, who has retired after 27 years with the company.

Mead, 46, comes to Safeco from Travelers Insurance, where she was senior vice president and chief financial officer for the company's property/casualty businesses. Prior to joining Travelers in 1989, Mead worked in public accounting with Deloitte, Haskins & Sells in Bristol, England, and Price Waterhouse in Philadelphia and Hartford, Conn.

Burns & Wilcox Names Director, Deputy Director

Jonathan P. Brown has been appointed director, and Wayne A. Bates Bates   , Katherine Lee 1859-1929.

 has been appointed deputy director of the international special risk division of Burns & Wilcox Ltd.

Brown manages specialty lines underwriting within Burns & Wilcox that handles larger and more complex risks and works closely with the London market in the continuance and development of the company's business there.

Previously, Bates was assistant director of the company's underwriting unit (Special Risk) and will assume an increased role in managing the division in international concerns.

Axa Financial Taps MacGillivray As Executive Vice President

Kaiser Permanente has hired George Di Salvo as chief financial officer for its California division.

Di Salvo brings more than 13 years of executive financial-services and health-care experience to his new post at Kaiser.

Independence Blue Cross said it has appointed William Ward, former managing editor of the Philadelphia Inquirer, vice president for corporate and public affairs, effective March 1.

Ward's responsibilities will include media and public relations, community affairs, external relations, overview of the company's member publications and the development of a strategic communications plan for the company's relationship with the community and the health-care industry.

Ward was associated with the Inquirer for 19 years, progressively serving as South Jersey editor, assistant managing editor, assistant to the publisher and, from 1996 to 2001, managing editor. Before joining the Inquirer, Ward was managing editor of the Baltimore News-American.

Munich Reinsurance Co.'s principal U.S. subsidiary, American Re-Insurance Co., said its president and chief executive officer is stepping down.

Ed Noonan, president and chief executive officer, will "relinquish his Position," the company said in a statement. The company offered no reason for Noonan's departure.

John P. Phelan, president and director of Munich Reinsurance Company of Canada, succeeds Noonan.

Born and raised in Kilkenny, Ireland, Phelan, 54, is a director and officer of several other group companies. He joined Munich Re of Canada in 1973, following a number of years with Guardian Insurance and Lukis Stewart Price Forbes in Montreal.
