John Garamendi John Raymond Garamendi (born January 24, 1945) is a U.S. politician and a member of the Democratic Party. He became the 46th Lieutenant Governor of California on January 8 2007.  -- Former insurance commissioner who seized Executive Life and orchestrated sale of its junk bonds and insurance operations to various French entities. Currently a partner at Yucaipa Cos. Recently announced his intention to regain insurance commissioner post in next year's election.

Leon Black -- Principal partner at Apollo Advisors LP who, along with fellow Apollo partners John J. Hannan and Craig M. Cogut, served as financial advisor to the French entities that bought Executive Life bonds and insurance portfolios.

David L. Harbaugh -- Morgan Lewis People named Morgan Lewis include:

  • Morgan Lewis, a law firm
 & Bockius partner who submitted allegedly fraudulent documents on behalf of the French entities.

Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of Executive Life Insurance Co. who bought billions of dollars of junk bonds from Michael Milken Michael Milken

As an executive at Drexel Burnham Lambert Inc. during the 1980s, Milken used high-yield junk bonds for financing and corporate takeovers. While his personal wealth was enormous, he spent two years in prison after pleading guilty to charges of securities fraud.
 at Drexel Burnham Lambert Drexel Burnham Lambert was a major Wall Street investment banking firm, which first rose to prominence and then was driven into bankruptcy in the 1980s by its involvement in illegal activities in the junk bond market, driven by Drexel employee Michael Milken. . When the junk bond market collapsed, Carr was forced to relinquish control of Executive Life to Garamendi.

Eli Broad Eli Broad (born June 6, 1933) a native of Detroit, Michigan is a Jewish American billionaire who lives in Los Angeles, California. His last name is pronounced as rhyming with road.

Broad is well known for his philanthropy and extensive art collection.
 -- Former chairman/chief executive of SunAmerica who headed the company when it acquired a one-third ownership in Aurora National Life Assurance Co., the entity formed to buy Executive Life's insurance operations.

Gary L. Fontana -- Partner at Thelen Reid & Priest in San Francisco who is serving as the California Insurance Department's lead counsel on the Executive Life case.

Tom Girardi -- Powerful nameplate partner in the downtown L.A. law firm of Girardi & Keese who may soon be hired by the Attorney General as lead attorney on its Executive Life case.

A. Howard Matz -- U.S. District Court judge in downtown L.A. who is presiding over the Executive Life civil cases.

Jeffery B. Isaacs -- Assistant U.S. Attorney who recently completed a multi-year investigation of possible criminal violations in the sale of Executive Life.

Bill Lockyer -- California Attorney General The California Attorney General is the State Attorney General of the government of the state of California in the USA. The officer's duty is to ensure that "the laws of the state are uniformly and adequately enforced" (California Constitution, Article V, Section 13.  who on June 20 filed a multibillion-dollar civil lawsuit against various European entities involved in the early-1990s acquisition of Executive Life assets.
