New course designed to assist companies in more successfully

managing projects

ExecuTrain Corp. today announced a unique three-day integrated project management workshop for IT managers, professionals and others, combining theory and best-practice knowledge with software training that is completely customizable for clients needing a concentration in communication or processes.

During the three-day workshop, students first analyze project requirements within existing parameters. Next, goals are defined, developed, communicated and managed through the Method, Actions and Process (MAP) process. Students then learn to input parameters and manage resources on their own project via ExecuTrain's unique Process Bridge Software -- a navigational tool that utilizes tool bars to create work breakdown structures, assign resources and create a critical path. The workshop concludes by assessing project results and focusing on overall performance and continuous improvement. As a result, students are prepared with the first step definitions of their own personal project at the conclusion of the course making the workshop a "learn as you do" exercise.

The ExecuTrain Project Management Integrated Workshop was developed by project managers specifically for project managers who require "best practice" business skills and theory training to complement the software training. A "shortcut" user interface makes Microsoft Project software easier to use and navigate. The workshop also includes project management theory, applications and real-live scenarios of successful projects. Further, the course details how to successfully manage a project - from inception and goal setting to team building, scheduling resource management and execution.

The terminology, processes and skill curriculum taught within the workshop are compliant with the Project Management Institute's (PMI) Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) and are a good first step in preparing for Project Management Professionals (PMP) certification.

An August 1999 research report published by GartnerGroup entitled "What Skills Will Characterize Top Project Managers?" indicates that good methodology and high levels of technical expertise do not ensure successful IT project management. The report indicated that several often overlooked worker attributes can improve outcomes such as risk management, creation of a communication plan, resource management and project closure.
