Openly gay British actor Rupert Everett's successful movie career, including his appearance as King Charles King Charles can refer to:

 II in the recent release Stage Beauty, has landed him on the cover of The Advocate, and not for the first time. Almost seven years ago, Bruce Vilanch Bruce Vilanch (born November 23, 1947) is an American comedy writer who caught the public eye when he became a wisecracking regular on the revamped Hollywood Squares with Whoopi Goldberg.

Vilanch was born into a Jewish family and is a practicing Jew.
 interviewed Everett on the heels of his biggest success to date, costarring with Julia Roberts in My Best Friend's Wedding.

At the time there was widespread buzz regarding his potential to become the first openly gay actor to cross over into mainstream romantic leading roles. But it hadn't happened yet. "I've been offered a lot of cannibals lately--I mean, characters who are cannibals," Everett quipped, adding, "I don't really mind whether I play gay or straight."
