Excelsio Communications and Viasys Network Services Deploy Municipal Wireless Network in Rome, Georgia.

ATLANTA -- The City of Rome, Georgia, today announced that it has successfully deployed a wireless broadband network to supplement its wired municipal network and provide significant throughput capabilities to remote offices. The pre-WiMAX wireless system is designed to facilitate new and future broadband applications that improve city productivity, increase interoperability between departments and lower connectivity costs.

Jason Lovett, City of Rome IT Director, who spearheaded the effort for the city of Rome said, "The network is a real boon to our community and to the city departments that it supports. We can now communicate internally at higher speeds, reduce costs for those connections and we have a level of security in place with which we are very comfortable. The network connects five remote city facilities with the City LAN using OFDM radios from Alvarion and Proxim. The network is designed to support data, voice and video services with response times less than 3 milliseconds on the wireless portion of the network. Network design, installation and maintenance services were provided by Excelsio Communications.
