Excellent A& E staff face a lot; YourSay.

kidney patients being refused blankets in Heartlands Hospital, (July 31).

Every Trust hospital now has boards of independent governors to look into these matters on behalf of unhappy patients. It is worrying that these governors are being overlooked when such matters arise.

Heartlands Hospital has major challenges to face, having one of the busiest A and E departments in the country, dealing with more patients than ever before, a problem exacerbated by the binge-drinking culture in our area at weekends. There is also a shocking increase in drink-driving related deaths and serious accidents. The total cost of this madness nationally is more than pounds 2 billion.

All creating a totally unnecessary and onerous burden on doctors' and nurses' valuable care skills.

It is nothing unusual to face patients who have consumed over 24 units of alcohol in just one night, almost a two-week intake of alcohol, causing major damage to liver and other organs.

Society has now created a "Wild West" type of irresponsible drinking culture Drinking culture is the notable customs shared by groups of people around the world involved in drinking alcoholic beverages.

Although the type of alcohol, social attitude toward (and acceptance of) drinking varies around the world, nearly every civilization has
.

Staff in A and E departments around our city are on the receiving end of this 24-hour drinking culture madness. Our excellent staff have many other issues to face, not discounting the lack of blankets for our dialysis patients.

We live on the Moorpool Estate and can't believe that Birmingham City planners have no objections to our estate, recently described as a "jewel in the crown", being concreted over.

A green lung or oasis it is, but not for long it seems.

Did the planners really read our letters and listen to us and look around with a clear vision to what is proposed? I wholeheartedly whole·heart·ed

agree with B Hopkins, shame on our so-called "green thinking" council; we are devastated.

Make the most of our estate before it alters forever.

W P Richards, Harborne were appealed, an astounding 81 per cent were thrown out by the appeals tribunal board based in Manchester.

Whilst these easy pickings go on with a lucrative fines system, the city grinds to a daily rush-hour halt, with the Birmingham City Council and Parking Control Plus playing their part in this grossly embarrassing incompetence.
